L/U input shaft endplay 1992 250 V-8

When I did my water pump a couple of weeks back I noticed the input shaft (from crank through w/p) can rock around a bit. There is no side to side movement. In otherwords, once engaged in the crank it cannot move. Is this normal? At first I chaulked it up as normal so it aligns with the crank properly but am now second guessing. There are no signs of water in the gear oil or major metal on the drain plug. It shifts good and seems to run fine. 1992 250 V-8

Sounds normal to a degree. There will be some play once the water pump is off. If you're concerned, just pull the bearing housing that's under the water pump plate. My guess is that it's OK.
