Haven't posted in a while, but it's nice to see alot of the same names. Of course I have problem and that's why I'm looking to iboats once again.
Engine: 88' V6 200hp black max, 1.87 gear case.
I found the L/U seeping gear lube from one of the "weep" holes on the L/U above the waterpump intakes on the starboard side. I know it was gearlube because there is no mistaking that smell.
At any rate I pulled the vent and drain/fill screws and about a 1/4-1/2 of clear water came out. Yikes!. But the magnetic screw only had the normal shavings so I figured I was fine. ALSO, both the vent and fill screws backed up way too easily, I mean I could have backed them out with a nickel. So naturally I figured that that is where the water was coming in. So I filled and drained a couple times and put new screws and o-rings back in and tighten the screws as hard as I could.
But, what I don't get is why would gearlube be coming out that weep hole. It must mean a seal has blown too, right? Must be the driveshaft or shiftshaft seals right?
The L/U shifts fine and makes no noises. I've used the boat 3 times since, I'm eager to see if there is water in there again.
What do you think.
