1980 Chrysler 100 HP outboard Model #1002HOAN. The gear lube is coming out with small amounts of water - milkshake like. I have dropped the gear housing and found some lube seepage around the Prop Shaft Seal. Ready to replace, what can I use to pull the spool? What other critical seals and rings should I replace while I am here?
Also, the six 2 1/2-3" bolts I pulled to drop the housing had either silcone or thread lock on the threads, or something else. Any ideas to what to use when replacing?
Thnks :)

As long as you already have the LU off, I'd change the shift seal and the drive shaft seal too. Go to a NAPA and ask to see their marine catalog. It still has some Chrysler parts in it. They had a seal kit for my 55 so they may have a kit for yours too. I didn't use any sealant on the bolt threads when I rebuilt. The bolts had lockwashers. But, you can always go with Loctite.

Smiley... there is two bolt holes that the anode bolted to the bearing with. Use these with a puller to get the carrier out.

Get the whole kit from iboats. The original seal kit part number is FK1063. Check the link below.

http://www.iboats.com/mall/index.cg..._category=chrysler seal kit&*******=293773032

Make sure all bolts are clean before reassembly. You can use a gasket sealing compound to to coat the bolts.

Keep us posted...thanks.

I have hooked up a spool puller but with no luck. The obvious four bolts have been removed, is there anything else that retains the spool in the housing? It won't budge, and I am afraid to put much more tenision on it.

According to the cylmore manual.

Install flywheel puller as shown in Figure 59. Shift gearcase into gear and rotate drive shaft. Puller will unthread itself from the propeller shaft, drawing the spool from the gearcase.

Yes, I read that , too. But it isn't moving. Is the spool actually threaded into the housing? Is there anything else to prevent it from sliding straight out?

Re: L\U Service Questions for 100 HP

Hey, I finally got the spool/carrier out.
I left it under tension with some penetraiting oil for a week, and with some more force it creeped out. Very encouraging. Ready to move fwd. New seal kit coming this week. Any ideas about the water in the lube and where else I should open, inspect and service? I haven't opened up the area below the water pump yet. After removing the prop spool, is the slight lateral movement in the prop shaft normal?
And as per manual, what is Rykon No. 2EP grease for O-rings and RTV Sealant it says to wipe on screw threads?
Thanks
