Hi,

i had a question for you guys. I know that a lot of Mercs use the same lower unit (i had a 1993 60hp 2 strokes and i think it's the same l/u form 40hp to 90 hp).

I recently bought a 1987 Mercury 210cc (8 hp) Sailmaster serial 0B119512 that have some water in the gearcase. Found to be a stripped vent plug that i fix and no more water inside, but cause of possible past dammages, i want to take a look for a spare l/u at some srapyards. Can you guys tell me what model (hp) and years of engine use the same l/u than mine?

P.S. I also consider made it check by a mech. but i'm a bit affraid of the costs. I'll use it as a kicker for safety so it will not run much. I know corrosion on this gears reduce useable life but does a rebuid worth it (i expect it to be in the 300$-400$ range, right?).

Thanks a lot!

Re: L/U swapping...

I would not take that foot apart until I had too. If it's not getting water in it now I would run it untill it tore up. I'm not sure what foot will cross over; but i'm sure it will be cheaper than a rebuild. My buddy just had his seals replaced on his 60 cost $400. He ran it for two years with a beat to hell prop In fresh and salt . luckily his gears looked fine.

Thanks, that's what i plan to do (run it until it gave up), but, just in case, i prefer to a have one at hand for replacement.

Anybody knows which years and model will fit (it's a 20" shaft).

Thanks.
