Oh man.... you all are missing great opportunities this weekend. Grab a lawn chair and sit by the launch ramp and watch the fun begin :D

Or better yet, with a college town... put your boat in about 6AM and anchor near the back of the "party cove". Bring your camera and binoculars and watch the sights.

Yes! Somebody thinks like I do. There's no better entertainment than stupid people! ;)

And another one!

On a weekend like this the plan is to spend the weekend on the boat AT the marina and watch the show! It's better entertainment than television :D

Here on Lake Mead we have a year round season, so we don't mind missing a few weekends because of holidays. Can't try beating the crowds and relax too. The crazies have their time and we have ours.

We are going to go put in, deal with the masses until we clear the normal places and go find a little cove away from the normal channel to enjoy the day in.

While the number of boaters will be up, foolishness about, I?ll traverse in the marked channel and allow them the play ground and not be pushed away from what our family enjoys because of a 4 day weekend.

Hope everyone enjoys what they do this weekend.

Love to go out to the lake... but with kids and my wife on board I'm not sure if it is even worth trying to get out this weekend... We boat on a lake that is within 10 miles of a major college..

And I am pretty sure all the college kids get "daddy's" boat out for this weekend for the last horray of the summer..

What is everyone doing this labor day weekend? Anyone going to fight the crowd and get out to the lake/river/ocean?

I just know from past experience there is alot more drinking and boating on this weekend... well and memorial day weekend..

Last blast of summer. We will find a quiet area of water to use.:)

Gonna hit Horseshoe Lake in Whittlesey WI.
Gonna have to get there early, at least by 2 pm, or all 5 of the parking spots will be taken. Then I would have to park on the road, and walk 200'.
You can see the "parking area and launch in the upper left.

Some friends and I were up by Mercer last weekend. We had some nice smallie fishing on Turtle Flambeau. Got 8 of them between 3 and 4 lbs and quite a few in the 1.5-3 range. Windy but a great time.

In the past we've gone to a number of those little lakes with a low spot in the weeds to launch and park along the path. Good times.

Well it was in the upper 80's on our vacation last weekend up in Northern Minnesota. This weekend it will barely be 60 degrees so that pretty much setteled it for us. No boating.

Absolutely worth it. I refuse to ever go out on a holiday weekend Saturday, way too busy. We're going out early Sunday morning. Supposed to be mid-90's.
We went on Labor Day a few years ago, were just a handful of boats on the water.

Last 5-6wks of boating here unless you winterize/drain after outings. Just too much BS with the twins. We used to do that with the jet, but winterizing only took 3-5min!

It was 38* when I got up this morning!

We're spending the entire weekend at our friends' lake house. Just us. It's on a 2000 acre lake exactly one hour from our driveway. The majority of the traffic is comprised of people who live on the lake, and lots of them have kids my daughter's age. There's just enough room to pull tubers, skiers, etc. because everyone is so mannerly, and when it's break time there's a sand bar where people anchor up to visit, chill, grill, and let the kids play in the shallow water. How spoiled are we?

I'll be out tomorrow pulling crab traps (have to check them twice a week), but will probably avoid the rest of the weekend. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if I end up doing at least one SAR, as a result of typical holiday boat behavior.

Re: Labor day weekend? Worth it?

Update: went out monday and holy **** there was 40 mph winds and the water was so choppy it wasnt even fun driving around.. but on the good side we found a cove that was out of the wind and had fun grilling and swimming around so it wasn't a total loss... Until i tried to put it back on the trailer with 40 mph winds blowing right to the side makes it hard to get it back on the trailer.

Hit up lake Erie over the weekend off of Cleveland several times this weekend. Nothing better than anchoring just off the breakwall and watching the Blue Angels scream by. See we have the airshow every year on laborday weekend, and everybody anchors as close to the action as we can get. It's friggen sweet!

Re: Labor day weekend? Worth it?

When this thread first started my initial reaction was it is not worth it. When I was running fishing charters, private boats, or just sightseeing adventures... hollidays were off limits. Crazy operators and even crazier guests. Went with an expierenced operator Labor Day....sat in cockpit, looking aft sipping on a brew... till we cleared the inlet.....same returning home. Was a good relaxing day and the Admiral caught some fish....she is sore today. I would do it again under simular circumstances. :D
