Lake cruising

A few years ago(quite a few actually) my brother in law and his young son were fishing from one of those small plastic pontoon boats. He had it equipped with a trolling motor and they fished about 20' off the bank in a cove.<br /><br />Dad was working on his dock, when all of a sudden there was a big commotion on the brother in laws little boat. His son had caught something large, his rod was bent almost double and they were moving away from shore. <br /><br />They had hooked a 40+lb catfish and it was pulling them to the middle of the lake. They got quite a distance away before Dad managed to get his boat going and get out to them. After much work, they finally got the fish landed.<br /><br />Dad said brother in law and son were white as a ghost when they got to shore. He sold his little boat shortly afterwards and got a real one.

I don't see them much anymore, but in years past on Lake Dallas, I'd see guys floating around in those inner tube bass buggy things.<br /><br />It was basically a truck inner tube, with a seat hanging down in it. And the person would wear diving flippers to get around with. They'd move along the shore line flipping rods all day with a little cooler & other gear attached by strings and sort of dragging along behind them. <br /><br />You'd see them up in the coves and other out of the way places near where you could park a car on shore.<br /><br />Every once in awhile you'd see one snag a big gar or catfish and they'd take off.........

Fishing in Engeland around 1989...Dad was crowding me (very little room on the bank)...I saw this boat and told him it would be a perfect spot for casting. Well...I had more room to cast, he had more fish <br /> <br /><br />Seee????<br /><br />

Yep Beezee, first time there, broke off 4 before changing the tip of the leader to 0.24mm. In Holland you could catch 20-30 cm trout then, Germany too, but England was a surprise

Back on the original subject, I was fishing for Striped Bass in the Altantic Ocean, off NJ last December. It was the end of the "run" since the water was near 40 degrees F. There was a guy on a surfboard with his fishing pole, paddling around the Striper school. He was so low in the water and in his dark wetsuit, so hard to see, I nearly ran him over.<br /><br />If he had hooked a big striper, he would have gone either to Davy Jones Locker, or maybe England. He was either a brave fellow, or a d@#$ fool.

They are called "belly boats" and they rock! And your right, you can park anywhere and just take the belly boat with you and off you go. <br />There is nothing like sitting in a belly boat for an entire day. It's awesome. <br />But you have to beware of boats because like Chris1956 said, you sit low in the water, so a reflective vest is best. <br />And they only cost $100 and up to buy one.

Yup and the GAr and gators around here love it when people go out in a belly boat with a strinnger of fish lol. i have seen people trying to walk on water when they notice a gator following them to get at the stringer.
