When we lived on Lake of the Ozarks we usually started boating around April 1st. If the weather cooperates you can certainly be on the water sooner, just be advised that many of the on-water establishments may not be open yet. Call ahead. H. Toads stays open year 'round but that's one of the few places that does. You can see us in the attached pics pulling up to Toad's snow covered dock in late March; the weather can be "iffy" that time of year.
The first "big" event is spring harbor hop on May 4th. Many places don't open until then.
Without all the tourists the lake has a much different "feel". Quiet, peaceful....if you aren't looking for the party cove crowd you'll like it. There's still places to eat and drink, just not the huge variety you see during the high season.
