Yes, available at Home depot, and other stores I'm sure. I didn't know what it was either until I saw it on the shelf at HD. I'm a little pressed for time (self imposed deadline) so I will probably use resin and glass. Otherwise I'd use PL.

Disk - PL Premium is sold in HD and Lowes. It is a polyurethane based construction adhesive. It is waterproof and mighty strong.

Texas - I used screws because it is nearly impossible to clamp the center well without special clamps, The screws don't hurt anything. Once the PL sets the screws just go along for the ride. I place the tranosom such that the screw heads faced towards the outer skin. So, from inside the boat you don't see any screw heads. Plus everything will be glassed anyway so no worries.

OKAY! What did I do wrong? Mixed my poly and MEKP, 1qt, and turned to gel before I was done wetting out my plywood. Just as i was done really, but now I have a tub full of resin I can't use. Back off on the MEKP? I'm working in the shade, but it's hot outside.

What products are you using? U.S. Composites poly? Fiberglass Site's Poly? Some other brand?

Composites One poly. I started at 2.5% as suggested and made one quart. I probably would have been okay if I hadn't added an extra splash of MEKP. I backed it to 1% and only made up pint batches. I know that was backwards. If I weren't under a time crunch, I think I would be more comfortable using the PL. But this is a good learning curve as I will have to glass the stringers and deck. I guess I'll know if it worked when I take the screws out.

Lamination seems to be holding up. Prior to laminating, I cut the transom blanks. After I laminated the blanks, I cut the curves with my redneck jigsaw (Sawzall) and now I'm honing the curves with my belt sander. Just using what I have.

Hard to tell much here, but you can see the resin cracking in the cup.

I think I got it. Took me about 4 times linger than it should have, but it was my first! I'm going to post the rest of the results and progress in my "1986 Skeeter" thread.

I don't want to hi-jack gworca's thread, so I will hi-jack my own. You say not to use thinned poly. Why not? It was suggested to my (not on this forum) to do my first wet coat on my plywood using lightly thinned poly. I have not done this, but am curious.

So it's okay to use thinned resin to prime or seal wood then, right? I know I'm just an Aggie, but that is what I understood from that article.

Yep perfectly acceptable. Will make it last for decades. Just don't thin it too much. Stay within the acceptable limits and you'll be just fine.

Thin out your resin ( poly or epoxy ) with acetone ( up to 20% ) for the first coat then less reduction untill you have no more absorbtion..

Dont miss the windows of cures.. ( dont thin coat and wait a day .. then coat again.. )

YOU HAVE TO DO THIS IN ONE SHOT DAY.. then reprep or put the board in there for hot coat ( still tacky ) .. If you miss the window then there is no going back..

Its a Fiberglassers trick..
