But the wiring, now that is a real bear.
If you found a '81-'83 300D Turbodeisel (123 chassis) in a bone yard. The glowplug harness/temp sender/glow relay is basically integral. The alternator/starter harness is too.
The conversion is sweeter than you may think. The motor should sit high enough in the frame so the oil pan doesnt interfere with the axle/steering. And the oil cooler separates from the Mercedes radiator so it can be mounted near the LC's. You only need a vacuum on/off switch to shut it down. The stock air filter is adequet too.
Remember most boneyard TurboDeisels will have a ton of miles on them and prolly be worn pretty good.

Dunaruna,

I wish we got the diesels here. Or it would be nice if we were closer and parts could be cheaply imported.

Skinny,

I have looked at a lot of boneyard diesels, but I don't know anything about them or doing this kind of transplant. From what I have read the hard part is getting the factory Toyota gauges to read properly when transplanting engines from anything. On the bright side, MB diesels can rack up a million miles and still run strong.

Ron,

Spend some time lurking on the ih8temud forums or go to the Slee website and you will see that these beasts can made to climb like a mountain goat.
