I'm in the process of pulling the cracked block out of my 1995 Bayliner Capri 1854, 3.0 I/O,,, I have a complete 3.0 out of a 1989 Searay. I was just looking at the mercruiser online manual for engine removal #13 I think.. Anyway the large electrical connection on top of my engine hooks into a bracket where the red reset button is (the plug goes through the bracket), the manual says this is Breaker Point Ignition,,, The new engine I'm installing has what appears to be the same electrical plug but it just kind of stands alone and runs parallel to the bracket and red reset button, the manual calls this one DDIS & EST Ignition.. If you look at the manual it shows both plugs one on top of the other on the right hand side as you scroll down.. I guess I'm wondering what to do,,, I suppose if I have to i'll pull the engine harness off the original motor,, or maybe it'll just plug in the way it is?????? Any Ideas???? Just to pat you guys on the back this website is a wealth of knowledge at ones fingertips,, you guys are great and save us wanna be boat mechanics huge $$$$$$$$$.. Thanks Again..

Re: Large engine electrical plug???

You can't change electrical harnesses from a point type ign, to either the DDIS or the EST, they are not the same.
Just unplug the old harness and plug in the new one. The plug is the same.
For the 89 engine, you need manual #10

Re: Large engine electrical plug???

Don's right again. Even though the electrical system on the engines are different, the pinout on the plug remains the same. Like they say in the computer world, Plug and Pray....:D
