We all wanna go bigger & faster....kinda like asking if you would like more money, fame, better looking spouse, bigger johnson , bigger house...... You shoud be able to find a boat that meets your needs in that price range but may have 2 or more years old it----and that is OK!

If you're young, with a decent earning potential, go bigger and faster now. When you get older you can settle back down to reality. At 60, my favorite boat is a little 16' Jetcraft. It's perfect. I still have a 90+ mph STV that'll make you think about investing in Hanes underwear so I can't say I'm over it yet. Size doesn't matter as much now though.

The 290 SC is available as a mid cabin, which is a bow rider plus extras like a head in the middle. Scroll down on the page linked above for a pic.

Stock power is the 496 HO.

It's the exact hull as the VR-1 that held class records for years.

I would probably recommend a chaparral 256ssi with a 496 mag H.O. It can still be used as a nice family boat and can probably touch the speed that you want. It sits fairly deep IMO. You can also stay under budget. You can always go with a brand that is more affiliated with straight speed but just my thoughts.

I understand your pain, went through it last year. In the hope for a cure i went up 6 feet..

I'd look at a Monterey 264 or the Bryant 268 if I was you, I went with the Monterey 264 with a 350 mag Bravo III and love it. Now it will not run the 60+ mph you are looking for but it will cruise right at 50 mph with 2 to 6 people and gear. Put a 496 in there and you might hit the 60 mph range. While looking we fell in love with both boats we just got a heck of a deal on the Monterey and have not regretted it one bit.

So you relate low quality production boats as better than well crafted boats because you think??

What boat brands are more affiliated with straight speed anyway?

Sorry for giving you a hard time bro, but you should look further into boats and boat builders. Check out Phillsters Checkmate thread and then look at how a Chapparral is made. You won't want the later.
