Lark II 40HP Identification Help

Can anyone tell me the year range the Evinrude Lark II 40hp's were produced and confirm that the motor in the pictures is actually that model?

Also, what would the parts compatibility be between a 1959 35hp Lark? I ask because my dad has a 59 35hp which used to run great, however, it has sat outside for about 9-10 years. I'd like to restore it mechanically but I am worried it may have problems from ants among other things. If the 40hp Lark II at least had a compatible LU, cowling, and starter it may be worth buying as a parts motor. From the pictures available, our 35hp looks almost identical to this 40.

The Lark II is a one-year motor, 1960. Many parts would be compatible, including mid & lower. Ignition, too. Carb and powerhead are primary differences as the 40 had a larger bore than the 35.

Thank you! I was starting to wonder why all of the Lark II's that came up in my search results were 1960 models.

This may be worth a buy then. That 35hp was in pretty good shape at one point but I'm pretty sure it had ants in it at some later point while it has sat. As long as they didn't build a nest all the way up into the powerhead.

1960 Larks, BigTwins, and their Johnson Sea Horse equivalents had a tendency to break crankshafts. Looking at the picture it looks like the Carry Handle/remote steering attachment has repair work done to it, and the shift lever is broke off

Thanks for the info. I decided to pass on it. May have been a good deal for my situation but I have another project motor I need to get squared away first.
