My 93 Larson 115 15' bow rider has the two centermost stringers rotted all the way through. I know I'm gonna have to cut out floor but where would be a good place to end going forward? They are rotted from transom up about 1/4th the way forward. Should I cut fore or aft of seat mounts? What about fuel tank? Did you have to remove or just lift it (as it sits on these stringers).
I run boat but notice floor flexes and I do not run it in rough water. Need to fix soon!
Any suggestions appreciated

Lots of good threads on the subject of stringer repair here on iBoats. Look at the hull extension thread.

If the back 1/4 is very rotten, there's a good chance the entire stringers are rotting. Do a good inspection.

there is a lot more going on here other than rotted stringers.......

first of all.....get some pics up.....

if you have a ski locker......usually you can see the stringers on each side of the locker....take a drill and go into the stringer and look at the wood shavings.
i think the larson just had glass for stringers....they just needed foam or what ever as a shape to glass over....
a bad day on the chopper gun and it might just have de laminated.

if you dont have a locker....
take a circ saw....set the depth at 1/2 inch.... and forward of the rear jump seats....cut a squair out... and start digging till you see the stringer.

take pics of it....

the gas tank (if its a belly tank) will be between the two center stringers forward of the bilge

oops,
have ski compartment and can see a lot of the stringers. They used 2x4's but didn't glass over tops, just sides allowing insects and plain water rott to occurr. Sucks but I have to do something. Floor flexes around locker a bunch when in a chop. Needs the stiffining the stringers provide I think.

ok........the deck comes up. all of it...

dont bother pulling up the cug....cut thru it.....you wont be able to save it any how.

set the circ saw at just over 1/2 inch and go all the way around the perimeter of the boat. you can leave a 3-4 inch lip if you wish.

cut the whole deck and remove it in one peice......(the deck is not the issue here...the stringers are...so.....try and keep the deck in one or two pieces for a template.

once the deck is up....start digging out the wet foam.

after that......cut the stringers right out... down to the hull....i would use plywood on edge rather than dimensional lumber...plywood on edge is stronger than dimensional.

click that link in my sig...read the first 16 pages.....that is a stringer transom just dont worry about the extension part....but pay attention to the fibreglassing information.

get pics up whan you can and we can guide you.

oh....by the way.......start investigating plywood....buy what you are going to use and get it drying....it needs at least a week of good temps and a fan blowing on it.
