On a 17' bass boat powered by a Merc. 115, which prop would have the faster top speed?

Probably the Trophy all things being equal!

Depends largely on the set up, Pitch, diameter, etc. Quite a loaded question actually.

I'm afraid that I disagree. Lasers will run faster, Trophys will have a better holeshot. Neither work worth a crap on the inline 6's. Those like 3-blade aluminums or 2-blade bronzes.

Really? Huh... I was using a 20 P Laser II on my 16' runabout with my '87 I6 115. It seemed to like it plenty. Had good enough hole shot to get me up on a slalom ski with a fully loaded boat (I also weigh 250) and had enough at top end to run 46 mph on gps. Plus it "held" I've seen lots of alum. props let go on the boat I had this motor/prop on, and the Laser held nicely. My "spare" prop is a 19 P Michigan 3-blade stainless prop. That boat had UNREAL hole shot with that prop. Not as good top end though.

Pitch? Well I'm not sure. When I get my boat ready to launch I'm going to have to test some props. An educated guess would say that I'm looking for a 22 P Laser II or a 21 P Trophy Plus. But without actually getting the boat on the water I won't know for sure. If my guesstimations are incorrect I'm thinking that these 2 props will be under-pitched, if anything.

On a boat this weight (light) I'd say the Laser II would be faster.

Alot would depend on mounting location, height, set-back, etc.
In some cases, if the motor can be raised high enough, the 4-bld has been known to run a bit faster....water pressure/pick-up will be the controling factor here.

This isn't a late model 4-stroke 115 right? They have high gearing and don't like props over about 18P.

The only thing that will regulate pitch is Max RPM...on a light-weight boat, that 115 may turn a 24 pitch if that's what it takes to keep the RPM near the top of the range. on a heavier boat, it may be a 15-17 on a really heavy, loaded application. 2.15:1 is near standard for gear ratio.

for what its worth i have a1998 force 120 tr 17 triton bass boat with jackplate 5 setback i know its not same but a good comparsion have a 22 pitch laser 2 and a 20 pitch turbo both props have about the same mph maybe 1 mph differnt i can run the laser 2 alot higher than the turbo.both props work good.my freind has a 1996 115 merc on a nitro17ft bass boat no jackplate he has a 26 pitch laser 2 ss prop we both run neck and neck i get a better hole shot my boat will run 46 mph his boat runs 47 mph.your only going to get so much out of those little motors.my boat holds more gas than his both comparsions were done with a tank of gas of equal gallons.its just a thought i have had serval differnt props on my boat learned that those little motors dont like large diameter props so maybe stick with small diameter props.

Don't tell Dhadley those little motors don't like diameter......somebody may come and ask for all of his trophys, plaques, and awards for blowing away alot of the 150V6's with those little motors...It's a good thing those little motors were only pushing him 80-90mph too...he could have been hurt other-wise.8)

If the engine doesn't like the diameter, raise the mounting position of the engine until it does.....

ihave tryed that does not really help i hve the motor on the jack plate as high as motor will go.looses water pressure. dont matter what you type on this forum somebody always runs it down

Nobody is running anything down...
Let's clarify this...YOU are running at max efficiency if loosing water pressure, bjs, BUT...if you went with low-water pick-ups, you could go even higher.
And, depending on which Turbo you have, I would expect(have data that says so) the Turbo to run higher than the Laser, and also faster.
Bassboats "typically" do well with higher engine height and larger diameter props...the less diameter you have, the sooner it will blow-out (vent) at a given height.
Which Turbo are you running?
