Lashing valves

Im pretty sure I need to do some valve lashing on my 3.7 mercruiser. The engine has only 85 hours on her and now i can hear slightly a tapping noise coming from under the valve cover, im assuming the valves might need to be adjusted. Is there a way i can adjust them without actually running the motor? I have done this on a chevy 350 motor many times in the past by drilling some holes in the covers to be able to adjust them while it is running. I do not have a spare 3.7 mercruiser valvecover laying around so this would be difficult to do.

3.7 is non-adjustable. the pushrods come in 4 different lengths ,length determined by procedure in the manual.

Are you sure about that, i find it hard to believe that the nut on top of the rocker arm doesnt work itself loose after running @ 4100 RPM's @ WOT after a while?????

You have to torque the rocker arms down. They don't adjust like a Chevy engine, they adjust like a Ford.

Thanks Don for clearing it up. I guess ill start there by taking the valve cover off and checking the torque on them then...

Check for a bent pushrod while your in there.

Loosen them up then torque them down, then run up to temperature and retorque them.
