last year for carb engines

Is 2005 truly the last year for production of carb 2 strokes like my 90 Merc ELPTO or my 15 Evinrude, or my 25 Johnson Tiller. All are on boats where weight could be a real factor?

Not all. Small horsepower outboards will still be carbed for awhile, but most manufacturers are phasing them out as well in favor of 4-strokes. Right now R&D is concentrating on the larger horsepowers to meet emissions requirements. Single-digit horsepowers don't contribute nearly as much, and their sales numbers are much lower. So they'll be the last.
