I have a late 60s Evinrude 40 that runs like a sowing machine! It had been set up for 6 years or more and i cleaned the magnito thing and points and she runs great. My question though Is there a place i can get another controls shifter box or piece for that box?. I know there has to be one online somewhere but i dunno where?!?! I need the gear shifting peace that holds the cable inside the box. Broke it trying to shift before i greased it. Dumb move Thanks for replies

if it has a gas and a gear throttle then is is not electric shift. Ebay has several of them. You are looking for a simplex control.

late 60's did not have trim n tilt. is you key in the control or on the dash? a picture of what you have would help, and model # of your motor.

the key is separate from the control. Well i am not sure if it had it originally or not. I can get the model number and post a pic in a little bit but it is i think a 67 evinrude. It has trim and tilt on the fuel shifter i do know that and the motor is sitting on trim and tilt unit. it uses a 400 cable if that helps What i really need is the part that holds the cable in place when you move the shifter i broke it when i hooked the cable up and tried to force it to shift without greasing the shifter on the side of the motor

It's kind of hard to see which piece is broken in the second picture, but is it the thing that attaches to the end of the cable? It might actually be part of the cable assembly, not the control box itself....

you have a simplex control that someone has bolted a different handle on the end that has your contols. Any simlex box will work and you can move you handle over to it.

It is part of the handle b/c i can get it off without taking the handle off
