late 70's 110 9.8 hp

I just bought one not to long ago like to know if anyone knows if this motor is a good one and if there are any known problems in the past thank you.

Decent enough motors. Not real punchy as they're only 11 cubic inches, but they'll get the job done. Waterpump impellers are tiny and really need to be changed out every other season or so. Not the easiest things to get into if you need to rebuild the carb. Can be done, just a tight fit. If it is late 1970s then it should have stainless drive and prop shafts, so you shouldn't have too much problem with the lower unit, unless it has been abused. Earlier models had carbon steel shafts that would rust at the seals and allow water to enter...

thank you very much for the info. only one thing i don't understand is the post that you showed me what does it have to do with a merc 110 9.8 (all 3 not sure) thanks again

I think the posts were in error. Dont worry about the 9.8, Great motor, worked on several of them. A compression test will show if it is any good.
If it has been looked after you could see 120PSI on both cylinders. The Comps should be in excess of 100PSI and very even.
