Are owners manuals and repair manuals basically the same for Evinrude and Johnson motors (70 hp) manufactured in the late 1970's and early 1980's???

I would say no, they changed alot of stuff in that time period, went from electric shift back to mechanical, most of the engine is probably the same but they did change stuff.

If you're asking are the manuals the same for the two brands of the same year and HP...yes. If you're asking "does the same manual cover all these years" no, there were changes from year to year.

Find your year and get that manual, they are pretty specific and did change stuff year to year.

We are talking about OEM OMC manuals not Clymers, Seloc, they do cover alot of years and alot of engines and are close to worthless, go with the factory manual.
