I have this trailer that came with a boat I purchased about 10 years ago. It's a C2 slipper/c-hook spring. I found a kit from ezloader 300-015973. I haven't taken anything apart yet, but I was just wondering if anyone has done this and is it really as it appears? The kit has two bolts, two steel sleeves and 2 nylon ones. This does 1 spring. I'm assuming the steel sleeve goes inside the nylon one and this is the same one for both the closed eye (front) and rear c-hook?

ALso, does anyone know the proper torque for these spring bolts? Thx in advance

If you are using 9/16 inch shackle bolts which are the most common you will want 65 to 95 foot pounds of torque.

If you are using 1/2 inch then go for 45 to 70 foot pounds. And for 5/8 inch bolts use 100 to 120 foot pounds.

All of these components are designed to move so you don't want to over tighten anything.

Ok...so I ordered the kit. Bolts are too big (mine are 1/2"). So like a dope I returned it, thinking it was wrong. I still can't reach anyone at EZ-loader, despite several emails and phone calls. Anyway.....
But I did find on their site that they recommend what appears to be the SAME bushings, for 1/2" bolts, just use the smaller 1/2" bolts. ?
Is this extra 'slop' in here an issue?

Would I be better off just drilling out the spring hangers, instead of a 1/2" bolt in a steel leaf spring bushing intended for a 9/16" bolt?

Also, has anyone done this without completely removing the spring from the axle?
I thought I might be able to do it this way, but now I'm not so sure.

Thx in advance for any information

It doesn't matter one way or the other.
The spring is bolted to the axle and "floats" in the spring hangers. The nylon bushing is there simply to "guide" the end of the spring while minimizing metal on metal noise.

Yes, you can replace w/o removing the axle. Raise the trailer to take the load off the spring and do one end at a time.

Hey dingbat.
Thanks for the follow up.
I guess I'll reorder the parts then, and have at it.
I Appreciate your time and input. :)
