Lates 60's - Early 70's OMC ignitions

I am working on a 1970 Zundapp 5hp single cylinder which is German made. It has weak spark. Stops jumping gap at 3/16 and is inconsistent at even 1/8. I posted this here because I am told that OMC had a similar ignition configuration in 60's or 70's used on some models.

To troubleshoot the ignition I am trying to understand the system i am dealing with. Basically the ignition coil is mounted outside the magneto. The magneto seems to have 2 coils that produce voltage, one for lights, and I'd assume the other to generate ignition voltage which I'd assume the ignition coil amplifies. There is a condenser and contact points in the magneto as well. The external ignition coil has 2 leads plus the spark plug post. One lead goes to ground and the other, I'd assume to the points. Testing on an ohm meter, I get continuity between the 2 leads but nothing between either lead or the spark plug wire post. I am assuming this is bad but I am not sure since I don?t understand the way this ignition system?s coil windings would be.

You may want to try posting your question on this forum at " Other Outboard Brands ".

Why would I do that? I already know there isn't anyone on here (iboats) that knows Zundapp outboards. I am asking if there is anyone that understands a version of an OMC ignition that may be similar to the Zundapp. I described what I found with the Zundapp ignition. I am looking for an OMC that has points and condenser but the ignition coil is outside the magneto. I am looking for someone that understands this configuration.

It sounds to me that the secondary coil winding is open.

I suspect that to. I am trying to determine if there is a secondary winding in the ignition coil with this type of setup where the ignition coil is not in the magneto.
