Here are a couple of pics taken last weekend from my camping trip to Unicoi State Park near Helen, Ga. Maybe you've seen photos or postcards similar to these scenes. The water has a bit of blur while the rest of the scene is in focus. That's what I was trying to pull off here by fiddling with the manual settings on my (non-DSLR) camera. This is my first attempt at this. Next time I will remember my tripod.

So That's the Ruby Falls !!!!! I drive past there when I go to our plant in Alabama and when I am coming home. Mrs Ken and I stopped in Chatanooga on the way back once when she came down for a few days at the end of my trip and we drove home together. Went on the river cruise and did the aquarium. Had a really nice time. We then drove north to Berea for the night and drove home the next day from there. Next trip I would like to visit the Ruby Falls.
Nice photos.:):D:)

Well not quite...

Ruby Falls near Chattanooga is underground in a cave. This is Anna Ruby Falls at Unicoi State Park near Helen, Ga. Easily confused by name for sure.

Re: Latest Photos

Nice pics BUT, and I hate to be a Debbie downer here, I absolutely hate it when people blur water in pictures. It just looks so... fake.

And ya, totally objective opinion here, just my preference.

Anybody else not like the blurred water in an otherwise beautiful picture?

The blur is from extending the exposure time?????

I like the blurred image. Especially the second photo. I bet that would look really good blown up a bit.

Thanks for the pics. I grew up in Athens and used to go up to the Helen area, or somewhere in the North mountains, almost every weekend in the Summer to mountain bike. Brings back the memories.

Yes... Shutter speed was 1/10 second on the big waterfall and 1/4 second on the small one. The aperture also has to be adjusted to let just the right amount of light in. Too much and the image is washed out with too much harsh white light. Too little and it's too dark.

I took a good 25 pics and ended up with just a few keepers.

No photo editing was done except cropping.

It's supposed to look "fake" or rather artistic. Photography as an art is more that just capturing and accurately reproducing what's already there. Camera settings, films, filters, lenses, and even darkroom techniques come into play. Either you like a piece or you don't. No harm, no foul.:)
