You traded $800 worth of items for this? The trailer and all? MAN I wish I could find deals like that over here. Nice job!

lol, yeah, a V8 makes everything nicer. Except my truck. I don't want to lose 2 cylinders.

Yep, the trade items, I had a total of $800 into. Not their current market value to others apprently, but what I personally had into them with trades. I've been bartering items for years. Good times. Think I'll hang on to this for a bit... then see what other trades are out there. Someone MUST want to downsize from a bigger boat. lol.

You can see in my signature picture, the trailer came with a top deck with hoist to lift things up there. I don't need that, so I unbolted it and stored it away. Maybe add it back to the trailer when it's time to trade up.

I'm starting to see that there are some amazing deals to be found in the US. If only the cost of shipping the boat to my country wasn't so prohibitive =(

Maybe when I upgrade up to a boat able to handle a cross-Caribbean trip =P

Looks like a really nice boat. I don't understand what the top deck is though.

From what I can tell, it was a rack system to put jetski's above the boat. There was a pivoting hoist to raise heavy things up there.

Good trade. I'm actually surprised Wellcraft would put a 3.0L in a 21ft CC, that is probably quite underpowered.

Thats kinda what I was thinking. I have a '95 Wellcraft Eclipse, 21' CC, with a 260hp mercruiser (350 chevy), and the best I can muster with a 19" prop is 41 mph. Never the less, awesome deal for an awesome boat! Wellcraft seems to build very good boats. My wellcraft seems to be sturdier than my friends Sea Ray. Congrats on the new horse in the stable!

Sounds really cool. Have you had the Wellcraft out yet?

Nope, not yet. Still dealing with the county for a tax lien. Everything has been paid but it apparently takes 30 days for them to move their mouse over and click the "cleared" box. I have to head out to Ft. Bragg this weekend for a couple of weeks. Hopefully they have it cleared by the time I get back home.

we had a bit longer Wellcraft Excel that had much the same hull and interior deck design .... it was powered by a 5.something Ford V-8 and linked up to a Volvo out drive .... we really enjoyed that boat and trailered it from NC to SD and back twice .... the longest cruise we made in it was 150 miles (one way) down and then back up the Mississippi .... only negative we found was when run anywhere near WOT it was very thirsty ... hope yours will serve you well and am looking forward to reading about your outings

That is the first thing i was thinking... then i thought, maybe its twin 3.0's? Guess not. Hope it does well for you until you decide to trade up. Let us know how the first splash goes.

I'm amazed they would put a 3.0L in it... I am just imagining the misery it would inflict to operate a boat that size with so little power. Getting that thing on plane when loaded must take an eternity, and when you drop off to avoid banging through a big wake or whatever, you get to start all over... ugh.

Not to say the OP didn't get an incredible deal either way. I would have bought it for $800ish even with a weedeater rigged up as power. But, I am interested to hear feedback about how she runs.

Re: Latest trade project: 1995 Wellcraft 21' cuddy cabin, mercruiser 3.0

I'll be home next friday. With any luck, the county will have cleared the block for the taxes so I can get the current registration. Then I'll drop it in the water and give a full report on the little engine that could. . .

Spoilsofware, I noticed Watertown,NY as your location. I spend a year and a half at Ft. Drum out that way. Drove to the mall during white out lake effect snow just because I was bored in the barracks. That was 1998-1999.

Well I made it home late last night. This morning I went down to the AAA office. The county finally clicked their mouse button on "CLEARED" and I was able to get the current registration decals. I plan on taking this thursday and friday off work. Hit the lake on thursday, see what it does. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!

Great boat, but that power plant has got to make it a dog, and shake like crazy. I had to look twice at that picture to make sure if that was for sure a 3.0.

Yeah, that seems to be the general thought about the 3.0 in this boat. Seems like maybe it was put together as more of a harbor cruiser or something. Either way, looking forward to getting it out on the water. It looks like it will be ok to hold up a fishing pole or two. :)

So this Thursday will be the maiden voyage. Just checked the outdrive. Boat currently has a 14x20p 4 blade prop on it. Will be interesting to see what it does. Will post pics and a review before the weekend is over. :)

The four blade will probably be your best friend in trying to get that big boat on plane with only a 3.0. I still don't think it will be bearable.. but definitely better then a three blade pitched for top end.

I'm honestly not too concerned with top end and being on plane with this boat. My ultimate goal is to continue trading until I make my way up to a 40' aft cabin, moored in the marina. :)
