They are popular here with beach launching/ Retrieving. Seen some excellent set ups on some decent fishing boats.

All depends on boat size and ramp....I am 73 yrs old and have a 16' aluminum side console with a 40 hp motor. I launch and retrive by myself all the time. Trailer is a roller type, has side guides to center and I am able to power load at our local ramps. Launching is easy, I attach a rope to the deck cleat and coil the excess on the deck and the looped end slips over the winch stand. I back in until the boat slides off, then slowly pull back upbthevrampvwith my vehicle until the slack is taken up in the rope, bringing the boat back up towards the trailer. Get out and slip the rope off the trailer and pull my boat over to the dock and tie it up. Go park my vehicle then go boating

Just about the same procedure I use for my 14' tinny side console with a 30hp. It still works at 83 years old. I don't usually fish on weekends so I can take my time as my usual ramp is not all that busy.

I try to stay away during busy times as well, I am lucky to gave a ramp that not a lot of folks use due to a long canal ride to reach the lake. I get my stuff/ gear ready on the long canal ride so it doesnt bother me. As long as I have been doing the solo launch and retrieve I have it down pat...normally I am quicker than most two man retrieval teams. Worked very hard to get my trailer setup just the way it needs to be to make rhings quick and easy.

Thanks for the replies. I also rarely go out at the busy times.

I’ve been boating all my life and as a kid we had a roller trailer and dad always did the winch side of the operation since I was too young to drive and as an adult always bunks and I pretty much do it all even when the wife is with me. Her job is to have a perfect day on the water, mine is to deal with everything else. Bunks mostly grab and hold on in most situations I’ve been in. I boat on two local lakes and occasionally Guntersville and Nickajack pool on the TN river. Several ramp options avail to me from quite steep to quite shallow. I mostly use the medium to shallow, the couple steep ones are used only at times when it is shorter travel to use them instead of the others depending on the area of the lake I want to be on. So my want is to not have to walk to the front to latch and have the boat slip back. Some areas will have a wind issue to walk with a rope can be an issue.

Since my 56 year old body is definitely clapping back on me for all the bad things I’ve done to it over the years. I will prob get a ladder and a walk board for the tongue. I can still do old school on ramps that need it.

I'm just trying to make things easy. I've spent so many years with fixing up and having failures of old boats (which has been fun and wouldn't trade for nothing) I want simplicity and time on the water with fishing and sight seeing.
