Then don't move to Lexington Plainsman.

In adittion to the wonderful Medicare, social security and federal tax we ALL get to pay, KY gets a tad more.

State? 6%
Local tax? 1%
Occupational License? 2.5% (this one is a tax that the county get's no matter your occupation, just because I have the privelege of working in Fayette County)(and even if I DIDN'T live in Fayette, but worked here, they'd take that too).
Vehicles? Property and Excise tax every year when you tag it.
Boat? Property and Excise tax, every year when I renew.
County property tax? Let's say this, the high school on my end of town was just rebult to the tune of 45 Million. Guess who's property was just reassesed and ooops, the tax rate when up as well. He**, I don't even have kids at home anymore and I am paying through the nose for that school. An additional 600 a year.

Yep, taxes. Gotta love'em. I had a kid that used to work for me. 24, married, 2 youngsters. He had 0 taken out of his check for Federal Tax and he got back money every year thanks to Earned Income Credit.

I'd love to know what socially progressive chowderhead came up with that one. You put nothing in and get something back. Where the he** do I sign up?

I don't agree with tax laws that are based on the your compensation for the labor you perform.
In essence you're being taxed on the sweat of your brow, the work you do, or the skills you have.
This is completely an unAmerican concept to me.

Protectionist laws in a "freemarket" society.

Eminent domain laws that allow government to obtain private property for anothers private enterprise.

Criminal confiscation of property without due process.

Wars that are fought without a declaration as outlined in The Constitution.

Laws that allow a judge to overide a jurys decision.

Laws that allow a judge to overide the popular vote of the "people" prior to a Supreme Court decision.

Laws that allow public employees to have a labor union.

Laws that force a citizen to pay into any government social security program.

Law that enables the Federal Reserve board.

We are all born free. Law, statues, ordinances are put forth to make life together have structure. But with each law comes a restriction of freedom. There are some that relish the possiblity of a rule for everything. Those people are truely pathetic.

What I find truly pathetic is the fact that the people who actually fight to preserve the very constitution and rule of law we're talking about whine the least about it.

Those making the most noise about the partiot act, perceived lack of freedoms, etc, are often those that aren't, haven't been nor ever would actually defend it. Oh in a bar or with their budies, they'll say they would, if necessary. Thank God it hasn't proven necessary.

I guess as long as they kee telling themselves they aren't afraid it's all right.

There is nothing pathetic about it. It is called class. It is called honor. It is called respect. The rest is just empty rhetoric by those who wish to exercise control over those who embrace freedom.

Laws by definition restrict freedom, what does that make Lawmakers?

I've noticed the opposite. Veterans are highly opinionated, and very leary of any government intervention into thier personal lives.

My point was those that have to ante up do it silently, WITH honor, duty and respect. Those that have nothing to lose, personally, make the most noise, while ONLY making noise. Not only do they have no chips in the game, they never even sat at the table.

THAT was the pathetic part.

I don't know skinny. Most veterans I know are subtle in their opinions regarding politics. The war hero's I have been lucky enough to know almost never speak of their accomplishments or use them as some kind of lever to give greater gravity to their opinions.

I have known several medal of honor winners. I have never heard a political position out of any of them.

Skinny, you're right, I am opinionated. Comes with being the finest specimen of man on this blog. 8)

However, I have to disagree with you ref: the veterans and government intrusion comment. Perhaps some vets, or perhaps those that were drafted once upon a time. But anyone that willingly raises their right hand and swears that oath, knows that some things are bigger than the individual. They accept that. Just as I sacrifice for my children and wife at times I can sacrifice for the good of the nation. Too many people are worried about what they think are rights that in many cases aren't. As a whole, a lot of people in this nation just need to take some Midol.

Maybe it's because we have actually fought for those freedoms personal and national that many seem willing to give up.

Sorry I took us off topic.

Back on topic. Not that I advocate drinking and driving, but I have been told by many attorney's the difference between a .08 and a .10 is slight at best. They're both impaired mind you, but there really isn't that much difference. It HAS been noted however that since KY lowered the limit, the revenue from DUI's has sky rocketed. Shouls laws be manipulated for their economic impact on the city when they really have no other impact? ( if the difference is TRULY slight). Lawyers HAVE been known to tell a story or two.

Yeah, I know what you mean with some of them. My dad who was shot down over Korea and earned a bronze star in the ordeal hasn't voted since Kennedy.
In regards to politics he mumbles a few words about corruption and how the vote doesn't matter when voting in thieves and carpetbaggers.

I don't agree with the fact that mistakes in your past follow you forever. If someone does something stupid in college and keeps his nose clean and gets on with his life, I think after a certain amount of time he should be forgiven.

Certainly for a non-violent, non-druggie first time offender.
