Laying a four stroke on its side

Is it safe to lay the outboard on its side (the right one) during a 3-5hrs trip without draining the oil? The manual isnt very clear about this. I hope i won't have to drain oil everytime i transport it. I drive car. :)

What kind of outboard??? I know mercury and yamaha motors you lay them down on the tiller handle. DAMN ENGINEERS!
