I just bought a refurb HP desktop with XP home on it. I put a 17" GEM GM-170B panel on it. The screen on the LCD shimmys. I have played with refresh rate and resolution, and I can improve it, but it still shakes. I booted into safe mode and removed the adapter and made the machine re-install it and no difference. This LCD works on another PC with XP home and the new one works fine with a CRT. I have tried putting the LCD on another power circuit and moving it around with no success. Anyone dealt with this before?

One senerio you left out of the troubleshooting,
Leave the flat screen where it is and move another computer to it, instead of moving it to another computer to test.

Electric motors play havic with monitors, is there a fan near by? Florescent light fixture?

You are right, I didn't try that. There are no motors or fans nearby, but I will give it a shot tonight. Thanks

1. Try another monitor on the refurb HP and see if it shakes. If so it's the adapter on the machine that's bad.

2. Try what NoelMG said.

Re: LCD Monitor shimmy

Update - I fixed it. It was the video cable. I put another one on on a lark and voila! no more shimmy. I tried the bad cable on another monitor and it was okay. Must have been some interaction between the LCD and that cable. Anyway, thanks for the ideas.
