When I trim my lower unit up i see a leak. If i am in the boat looking past the motor to the trasom plate the leak is at the bottom right. does any one know what could be causing this?

If it only leaks when the drive is trimmed up my first guess would be the drive shaft bellows. When the drive is down the bellows is compressed and probably not leaking but when raised the bellows is stretched and any holes or tears would be open. This is not good as it can sink your boat plus the water in the bellows will destroy your gimbal bearing and u-joints.

Thank you for the input. I will pay close attention to these when I pull the outdrive. I have been hearing more noise from the outdrive this season. the noise is the loudest at low rpm with boat in gear and steering wheel turned. Would this be indicative of a bad U-joint. What signs of wear can I look while lubricating the U-joint other than water in the bellows?

Sebastian
This would be a good time to check the condition of your transom

if your boat is an omc and its about 5-10 years old then you might want to check that the trasom mount nuts(nylon)8 of them in a 2X4 pattern are tighten to 27 ft pounds also if they are not then but replacement nuts and a lock washer and throw away those nylon pieces of caca in the garbabe its the worst thing omc put on a boat think of all the pulling and tugging you put it unde when in reverse only to smash it tight again when you go to forward
TM
