Leak testing an empty aluminum hull?

Hey guys, I’ve just finished replacing rivets on my 16’ aluminum runabout and it was suggested to me that there isn’t enough weight in the bare hull to weigh it down enough to properly leak test it before I put the floors in it.

Any suggestions? I was thinking about leaving the trailer attached to help weigh it down. Maybe I could throw the three batteries I have and for fuel tanks in to help push it down. I’d really rather not re-mount the motor just to take it off again to continue the project.

I’ve read that filling the boat full of water isn’t ideal. It’s a ton of water. And a ton of weight on the trailer.

Thoughts?

You can back it in at the ramp and check it on the trailer. Some weight in the hull won't bother unless you toss bricks over into it.

If you know the weight of the motor, add that same weight to the stern area so it sits sort of like it would when under normal situations.

Obese friends?
I can fill in for one lol.

I think I’m out of time. Today was supposed to be 7 Celsius (44deg) but the wind was fierce out of the north with very unpredictable weather. It rained, snowed, ice pellets...bah

Might have to do the best I can and have faith.

I’m actually considering flipping it and giving it a coat of Gluvit or coat-it below the waterline for insurance sake
