When I tip up my tender motor (1985 6hp merc) it leaks gas from the choke pull plunger. Obviously its just gas coming out of the carb and finding the easy route out. Is it normal that when the outboard is tipped up that the gas drips out or does the carb need to be rebuilt? I just bought the motor last year.

Re: leaking gas

On some models its normal. Depends where the fuel is leaking from. Is the motor running fine? Does it idle well at low speed?

Re: leaking gas

seems to run fine and idle ok...sometimes however it seems like its bogging down but that could be due to pushing a 9 foot dinghy..I can get it up on plane easy when weight is up front
