Hi, I’m having an issue with gear lube leaking from the water suction holes on the lower unit. It’s leaking even when the motor isn’t running.

I replaced the passage O-ring between the upper and lower gear case last November while changing the water pump. However the gear lube only started leaking a few weeks ago.

I’m wondering if this could be a leak around the driveshaft seal or if the O-ring has gone bad after just a few months?

How to determine if this is a driveshaft seal issue and how to repair it (gen 2)? I mostly found only videos for gen one.

My boat is a 2005 Tahoe with a 4.3L TKS engine, Alpha One Gen 2 outdrive.

Thanks for your help!

most likely the seal under the water pump plate
Do you mean this one in the picture ? It looked pretty good when I was there.

Leaking more and more, I will have to open it soon.

What else it could be wrong ? I attached also picture when I complete the pump replacement, small quad oring was in place.

Okey, you have been right, oil was under the water pump, the lower seal went bad…
