my 1990 175 hp Johnson bottom carb had a small leak so I decided to try rebuilding it, after seeing all of the minute o rings and gaskets, I made an executive decision to only replace the float valve needle and seat , reinstalled carburetor and discovered my small leak is now a large leak actually gushing fuel from the throat .I read somewhere that the plastic bowls are notorious for warping, I did replace the bowl gasket however and it appeared to be ok. Any input would be appreciated!

What did you do to correct the warped bowl? Step one is to assume it's warped. I use the steel surface of my table saw to check -- like resurfacing a cylinder head, rotate the mating surface in a figure 8 pattern on a piece of wet/dry sandpaper until it is flush on the hard surface.
