Leaking oil - should I clean?

1987 evinrude XP150. I noticed a build up of oil on the engine, especially around carbs. I thought about spraying heavily with brake cleaner to "clean it up". I was worried about the effect of brake cleaner on rubber hoses and other parts. What do you think?

I always stuff rags in the carbs and spray Castrol Superclean all over the motor. My 1980 Seaking looks brand new and runs like a new one. It has never hurt it or the paint.

There are carb cleaners on the market that will not harm or attack rubber. Check at a parts store.

Bob

Thank you Nathan and Bob for your good ideas.
Also, Bob thank you for the reminder that we should not need, but too often do.
