Leaking tilt ram

I have a '81 60 hp Johnson and one of the hydraulic rams (right side) is leaking. The T/T still works but it takes a few seconds to build up enough pressure to move the ram. Any suggestions on how to repair/replace this ram? Also what type of business does these types of repairs? Also, where would I be able to replace the thing and what does one of these cost? Thanks.

Where is it leaking? If it's leaking where the rod comes through the seal then you just replace the seal, not the cylinder. You remove the cap on the cylinder to replace the seal. The seal is installed within the cap. Or on this motor, maybe you have to replace the entire end cap with a new seal already installed. First thing is to find the leak.

My 115 evinrude had an integral trim/tilt unit. There was two trim clyinders down low and 1 tilt cylinder above them.
I had a corrosion issue and a plug corroded right out of the side of the cylinder. I had to trash the whole thing and buy a rebuilt. $800 later I'm back up anbd running.
If it's the seal, you can try to get away with a tranny reseal product. You pour it in instead of oil and it will soften up hard rubber seals. Worth a try before rebuilding anyhow and you may just buy the rest of your summer out of it.

The ram is leaking from the top. But after looking at it, I can't seem to find be able to tell how to get the thing apart. Suggestions? Thanks. John
