leaking transducer mount

I just installed a new sonar unit and mounted the transducer using one of two previous mounting holes used for my old unit. I reinstalled the old screw back in the left over hole from the old transducer mount and coated the threads with sealer. I took the boat out on the water and my bilge pump had to be used. The mounting bracket on my new transducer is made so that the mounting screws are left a 1/2" away from the transom when tightened. I assume my leak is coming from there since it did'nt leak before I replaced my old sonar and transducer. Yes, I coated the threads on the new transducer when I installed them. If anybody has any suggestions/advice that would be great!!

thanks, pjw

Re: leaking transducer mount

3M 5200 sealant will pretty much stop any leaky hole. Just build up a bead around the suspected leak. Good stuff.

Dave

Re: leaking transducer mount

Do you guys get Sikaflex over there? Is 3M 5200 similar I wonder? Waterproof sealer and bond in one?

Sikaflex 221Noir is a sealer that the Germans use to bond car panels together with. I've used it to fix a transducer, nev lights, and other through-hull bits.

Amazing stuff. Draw round anything to be fixed with a pencil, mask round the pencil line with tape, apply sealer, screw down the transducer, etc and remove tape after a short time. Perfect-looking edge and great seal.
