Reply -- Yes its a typical fuel filter - like an oil filter --


Yeah the air in the lines it sort of strange -- I guess the air enters and the fuel seeks its own level where ever it can -- I suppose some may have drained off drain as I opened the lines as well -- but it was definitely not dripping out as I opened them. Not even a drop.

If the Leaky carb was not empty in the first place I would not be noticing the added time to prime the lines.

Getting ready to start this as a winter project - I will disassemble the Carb & leak test the passages

Is the area that tends to leak at the passage plugs marine carburetor specific -- I ask as someone has offered me a donor carb from an 80's truck -- -- But I am wondering if any parts in the body are interchangeable for Marine usage.

There are welch plugs in the bottom of the bowl, usual culprit on an aged carb.

You might want to pick up the Cliff Ruggles book on Q-Jets, he is one of the well known experts on them, the problems and fixes. As good a carb as the Q-Jet is, the cores are getting so old now that if you want 100% reliability and not have to fiddle with it during the season, the Edelbrock or Holley both of which you can buy new and are fully supported, is a good if more expensive way to go.....I'm going with the latter on my '88 OMC 4.3 because the later OMCs and Volvos came with the Holley 4160 after 1989 when OMC stopped using the Q-Jet. I was able to still get the fuel line, throttle cable adaptor and manifold adaptor for my engine from BRP.....This particular 4160 is jetted specifically for the 4.3 V6.....

the q jet plugs that leak are same issue on automotive q jets. Epoxy fix reccomended is pretty well accepted practice to fix it for many years now. Should take care of the issue

Ok -- Thanks for the input -- Will try JB Weld Epoxy after beadblasting
