There are plenty of Spanish speaking folks around here, Mexican, Cuban etc., and they are generally the hardest working people I know of. What chaps my britches is ebonics To be born in America and attend Amercia's free public schools and STILL butcher English so that you speak like an ignorant person who never attended a day school is soooo aggrevating Even the mexicans around here speak converstional English, and they speak it better than the average highschool, low rider, baggy pants, body pierced punk There comes a point where PC inclusion becomes counter productive to our culture. We past that point in the 1990's.

You do not have to be a "legal" citizen to vote in Arizona, nor do you have to show ID.<br /><br />Out current Governor does not think that's important.

My dad arrived in this country in 1949 and barely spoke any English. He took menial jobs that required little or no communication and practiced english with his friends and with kind strangers daily. He practiced in front of the mirror when he was alone. <br /><br />He served in the U.S. Army and proudly swore allegience to the United States of America and her constitution when he took on United States Citizenship. In 1981 he retired from government service as a GS-16. He still able to speak his native language but he speaks english without any accent at all.<br /><br />What happened to coming to America and becoming an American?

Amen Snailman I would have been proud to meet him and thank him for his service. What ticks me off is people that come to this country, do nothing, get a check, bit-h, moan and grown, wanting every body else to change everything to fit THEIR needs. <br /><br />I have no problem with someone comming to this country and working hard, being productive, and trying to improve themselves. I mean, why wouldn't they, this is the greatest country in the world, if I didn't think it was, I go live where I thought it was better, and if I did, I would expect to learn the language that they use, like your Dad did. Roscoe... See.. The thing I cannot figure out about the cubans is this... They complain about how bad the Castro regime is and how poor the cuban economy is, so why is it when the "dems" entertained the idea of putting a stop to the embargo to help boost the cuban economy (which I, a "dem"; do not agree with BTW), the cuban republicans cry foul... They say "oh, that money will just end up in castros hands"... Probably true... However, these are the same cubans who every pay day send money home to relatives in cuba, which I believe may be a crime under the terms of the current embargo, Yes/No?... Where do they think that money ends up? And was'nt it a Democratic President (President Carter) who allowed the refugees of the Mariel boat lifts to stay? Why not a loyalty to the democratic party then? I mean, after all, it was a Democrat who allowed them to stay, right?<br /> <br /><br />1980: 120,000 Cubans, including many hard-core criminals, depart Cuba for the U.S. in what becomes known as the "Mariel boat lift." Thank you President Carter for your "open door" policy and the 1980 Refugee act... Regan had the chance to fix the problem.. He did'nt.. George Sr. had the same chance.. He did'nt either... Billy Clinton, nope, still a problem..<br /><br />Now, if G.W. was sooooo great like so many here think he is,(I think he's an Idiot) he and the rest of the Federal government suckys and lackeys(even more Idiots) should/could/would get their act together, straighten out the b.s. of the refugee act, and tell these sorry *** immigrants, GET WITH THE PROGRAM, OR WE'LL SEND YOU ALL BACK!.. Ladyfish you just got to love the so called "ebonics" I have another name for it that I wont say here. I really love when superstar 76'ers basketball player Allen Iverson gets on the TV and just butchers the english langauge. This guy is about as sharp as a bowling ball!! But the kids look up to him as a hero.

I agree if you are going to be here you should learn to speak the language that is of course assuming we had an official language. No matter what everyone here thinks English nor any other language is the official language of the USA. Other countries have an official language and all students are required to be taught it and have to learn it why not here?

it amazes me how people move from a foreign country to escape prosecution and in many ways give up on their culture but yet come to America and Canada and once here they embrace what they ran away from. My attitide is clear if you move to Canada or America you embrace your new country first and then understand a follow your customs and traditions second

You are right, miloman just like there is no such thing as an african american. America, whether it be Canada, or the US love it or leave it, and we Canada and the US should be as one among the rest of the world.

Snapper, <br />Don't forget about George W's brother Jeb., Governer of Florida, and his Latina wife. They have strong ties to the Cuban community, which is organized, motivated and politically active. The Cuban commumities in Florida contribute heavily to politions that are friendly to thier cause, and they have far fewer demands than the AARP, another strong political force here in Florida. My point being that no polition wants to disinfranchise the Cuban immigrants, doing do would mean political suicide in this state, and both side want the electoral votes.
