When you leave it in the water you should place the switch in the auto position. Be sure to check the operation of the pump before leaving the boat unattended assuming that the pump will work.

Will it be ok until next weekend ? The covers are almost new and shouldn't leak.

Re: Leave bilge pump on ?

If you leave the bilge pump on with out pumping water it will burn up the motor.
If you have a 3 way switch- on/off/auto as stated above, put the switch on auto and the bilge will turn itself on as needed, it has a float switch built in that turns the pump on/off.
Also as stated make sure the pump works, turn it on and place your ear on the hull see if you can hear it run or if you have a water supply put some water into the bilge just to make sure the pump works.
If you have a full camper top on no water can get into the boat so i wouldn't worry too much, just make sure the pump works and test it once in a while.
