Re: Leaving boat in the water

billo001.

if you plan on just leaving it in the water for the summer.(few months?) I wouldnt paint the bottom. Because it will slow your boat a little. BUT - it will keep it clean.

I was fixing my trailer last month and rented a slip for the month. It was nice not having to trailer/load/unload the boat every outting. But I couldn't flush the engine after my outtings. And i had to fill up at the local marina was about 60 cents more expensive than what I can get at the local gas station. That was another reason why I didnt leave my 20' on the water for long. I'm not rich. Once I fixed my trailer I pulled my baby out of the water and took her to the pressure wash and hosed her down. After 28 days. she was stained and had little things that looked like eggs on her. I used a tough sponge and washed her good. But she was still yellow. I went to walmart and got the stain remover for 5 bucks. It worked.! You just put it in a spray bottle and just spray away. then hose her down. My bottom is clean now. white!

I dont know if my story has helped. I hope it didnt confuse you anymore.

---I hate to think about how the inside of my engine looks like, if my bottom looked like that. yuck.

Don't forget that marina gas you put in your boat is fouled up most of the time and makes it run like hell.

Depends on what size boat you have and if it is convenient to trailer or not. In most cases keeping your boat in fresh water lakes is not quite as bad on your hull as salt water, not as many barnacles and other crud. Another option is if your marina has dry storage, that way you don't have to trailer very far to launch or keep it in water. I have a 24' Mako WA that I hate to trailer because of the weight but I don't want to keep her in the water either, so I keep her on trailer at Marina. Very convenient and I don't have to mess with bottom paint. Chesapeake Bay area water is full of all kinds of critters that like to homestead on your hull. As far as marina gas being no good, there are about a bazillion boats that stay in the water year round and depend on marina gas. My fishing bud has a 45' Sea Ox that I would love to see pull up to your local gas pump just to see the look on the attendant's face.

Keep the Bait in the Slick...

Too funny slick... Good suggestion about the dry storage.

I guess I should have mentioned that the gas you buy at the marinas in the dallas area is no good. The only lake that offers good marina gas is Texoma - and you WILL PAY DEARLY for it - 3 bucks or more a gallon, depending on octane. Of course, people with boats on texoma usually have more money than god, and don't care. Not to mention they are running huge boats. I don't do texoma with a competition ski boat :)

Re: Leaving boat in the water

Thanks for all the great information. I'm glad I found this board, everyone is very helpful even though you don't always agree.
I've decided to leave my boat in the water and not paint the bottom. I plan to pull the boat once a week and wash the bottom or get may scuba gear on and wash the bottom at the dock. My boat is docked in my backyard so I don't pay for slip rental and I have 5 5 gallon gas cans that I fill at the local gas station and drive my truck up to the dock and fill the boat about once a week. Thaks again for all the great information. :)

i leave mine in all summer and thanx about the 50/50 mix idea with simple green as for the gas me and a buddy rigged up an old fuel tank 75gallons it fits in our truck bed and our truck is higher then our docks so it feeds by gravity gas is alot cheaper at the station then marina just add octane boost or lead whatever u need and go
