Left-Hand or Right-Hand Engine ?

I have a single 7.4 Bravo III sterndrive in my 27' Searay. I recently removed the engine-driven seawater pump for replacement and neglected to note the positions of the two 1-1/2" water hoses to the nipples on the plastic impeller housing. Near one nipple is stamped "RH Out", and the other "LH Out". Assuming "Out" means from the pump to the engine, how do I determine if my engine is right-hand or left-hand ? Appreciate any help with this. Thanks.

You have the same package as me and I've not noticed the notations you pointed out but I do know the input hose from the outdrive to the water pump housing is the lower connector and the hose going from the housing to the cooling system is the upper connector.

You have a standard LH rotation engine, all Mercruiser sterndrive engine are LH rotation. Why is it that new members never want to give the year of anything. Like nothing ever changes from year to year.

Yep. The STIFF AS HECK hose goes on the bottom. The bendable hose goes on the top.

Some further clarification.

Hold on with that top or bottom stuff.
Some pumps can be reassembled with the outlet/inlet wherever you want them.

Ok. But he can see the stampings. And the bracket I have seen doesn't allow you to mount it "upside down". But I suppose there are some that do.

Sorry about that. Tried to include all the small details, but forgot the big one. Good to know they'll all LH rotation. Thanks for the quick reply.

Thanks for all the great insight. Just joined today and saved a lot of grief (had it on backwards & luckily didn't crank it over).

We're still waiting on the year or better yet, the engine serial number.

Agreed. Also when installed correctly, This all depends on what fuel system you have.

If the impeller housing is installed in the correct position, the hose position should depend on what fuel system you have.

Engines With Combination Seawater / Mechanical Fuel Pump - Seawater Inlet Hose goes on top & Hose To Cooler goes on bottom.

Engines With Cool Fuel System - Seawater Inlet Hose goes more on bottom/outward towards boat stringer - Hose To Cooler goes more on top/inward towards engine.

See page 6A-7 for clarification,

Re: Left-Hand or Right-Hand Engine ?

It's a 1999 BIII 7.4 with an engine-driven seawater pump that receives raw water from the outdrive (ie, not thru the hull). I believe it's a "cool fuel" system with an electric fuel pump as there is no fuel pump combined with the seawater pump. The pump assembly can only be mounted to the engine one way and the plastic impeller housing (with the 2 nipples) can only be attached to the pump assembly one way due to the irregular bolt pattern-so I don't believe it's possible to mount the whole thing upside-down. So, it seems like the concensus here is inlet hose on bottom; outlet hose (to the engine) on top. Thanks for all the responses.
