I am looking at buying a left over 06 boat with a 115 merc opti on it. Although it has never been run (as far as I know) and it still has the merc. new warranty I am worried that there could be problems from it sitting for awhile. Any thoughts on this?

Engine manufactures use an assembly lube when building the engines. This is to ensure that there is enough lubrication on the first startup until the engine begins to build oil pressure or the oil fuel mixture are circulating good. But more than likely the dealer will have done a startup to make sure the engine will run for a potential customer. I would go for the deal.

If the boat/motor is new it should still be covered by warranty. The warranty begins when the unit is "placed in service" not when it is manufactured. Any problems from extended storage should show up while still under warranty. If the boat has been store/displayed outside, check the seats/storage areas carefully. Sometimes dealers are careless and let water collect in these areas and then freeze if the area is cold. This could lead to damage. I would be much more concerned with possible damage to upholstery/carpeting, etc. from exposure to weather and sun that the engine from sitting.

probably the only thing that could be a drama, and it is no big deal, is the fact that as soon as you buy it, the Boat is 2 years old, so resale some time down the track may suffer, you might be able to convince a prospective buyer that you bought it new in 08, who knows?
