I have a 63 40HP Johnson, it is new to me and was told it was fine upon purchase. When trying to start the engine it would not turn over, after swearing repeatitly that I got ripped off, I discovered it was the leg had been stored with no oil for quite some time and all the bearings have seized. I have removed the lower leg and have got the 2 bearings off the prop assembly but now it comes time for the 3 roller bearings inside the body of the leg. I got the mechanical seal removed (hope they still make them) but don't want to go any further as I don't want to wreck anything with removal. I have ordered a manual but was looking to see if anyone else out there has come across this job and may have some tips for a new boat owner. What kind of bussiness would you take that too for the removal that would do a better job than myself. I have a small marine shop in my town but they are so busy I might get the leg back next spring.
Thanks
