Re: legal hp limit for cable/drum steering

I never heard there was a HP limit on cable/pully steering systems. I had a 85 HP Merc on my boat w/ cable/pully steering. No isues at all.

It is recomended that you have only one spring on the cable, where the end attaches to the transom splashwell, so the higher HP motors cannot bounce back and forth on the two springs, at high speed.

Re: legal hp limit for cable/drum steering

My mechanic used to race a 14ft Allison with a 130 yamaha (putting out close to 300hp). He said that they tried every form of steering, until he tried the clothes line steering. He says it makes all the difference in the world, no other system can beat it.

So no there is not a horse power limit, you can see pictures of guys with 250 mercs on scream and fly using the simple cable system.

while not a legal limit there is a manufacurers limit, if your rigging it and something happens there is a liability issue.
check with the manufacturer on there reccomendations.

So I know there is no HP limit on cable/pulley steering. So why is the "spam" label attached? Is it the "Is this legal?" part of the post?
