Recently bought a 87 bayliner with 125 hp force engine..

With more than 3 people in the boat .. could not pull or plane

Ignition switch went out, along with primer .. was stranded on the lake a few

Put New switch .. works fine

New Primer bulb along with spark plugs.

Started intially and ran strong.

Now wont start.. gas runs out of both carbs.

I have been told that I need a new stater, coils or new reeds.. I have also been told to rebuild the carbs...

I also installed an inline fuel filter.. not sure if that would cause any problem..

Any suggestions out there to fix.. thanks cw

First: " You have been told." Unless you know the mechanic or person and know they really understand Force engines, IGNORE all advice. You will get far better results here in the forums. You will either get all persons that answer agreeing, or you will get several different answers of things to try.

You did not mention if you checked for spark, and if you did not, then why mess with the electronics? You did mention that the engine did start and run fine at one point. Reeds? Possibly a petal has broken, BUT: On an 87 they are not a common failure.

NOW: If gasoline is running out the carbs, then it is vey likely that the engine is flooding and therefore not starting. Even if you have no spark, save that repair for later. SO with a known problem, before you take the shotgun route to repairs, fix the carbs. Once the carbs are functioning correctly, then start checking for other problems. Unless you can see a broken reed petal when you look in the manifold with the carbs off, assume the reeds are ok and do not need replacing.
