Hi,I am a bit confused on operation of the timing and the way it advances? The linkage is conected to the throttle quadrant and moves when the throttle is advanced? But does this happen only in gear? Does is only have linkage to move it?
And can you move it manually at idle and listen for engine burps and cough to see that the sensor is still good and not shorted or bad?
I am just looking for other reasons for the loss of power when I put the engine in gear.
Just stalls out. From previous post I over heated the engine. I have since put new head and exhust gaskets on and new T-stat and pressure relief valves in. I am now doing the intake, carbs and fuel lines. I know if the timing isn't working correctly the engine won't run under load either.
The engine is a 1984 Evinrude 70 hp 49 cid
I checked the linkage and the timing plate advances with throttle movement. But it doesn't go all the way to the stop. This is with the engine not running.
steve
