Despite facing some not so nice weather this upcoming weekend, I want to take the wife and kids out for an overnighter with the new boat. If you have visited any of the below points please comment about what you thought of the area. Especially if there are things for the kids to do!

~Greenport
~Sag Harbor
~Orient Point
~Shelter Island

Thanks! :)

Re: LI Hotspot

There all nice but i think Greenport wins out for the kid stuff

YOU dont want to keep the boat at the town dock Brewer Stirling Harbor Marina is much better protected but you might need to take a taxi to town

The hardware store in Sag Harbor is worth a visit along with the rest of town BUT docking is hit and miss if you just drop in

Orient Point~Shelter Island nice places BUT not much you can do without a car

Thanks, that's kind of what I was leaning towards. They also have a town skateboard park and we own an eco-friendly bamboo skateboard company and my kids love to skate so I was thinking we can bring them there for a bit.

Re: LI Hotspot

I lived in Greenport 25 years ago. I passed thru last year on my way to fish in Orient and it looks totally different. Built up waterfront and lots of stuff to do. However, after Sept 15 alot of stuff shuts down for the season. Try this: http://www.greenportvillage.com/

Sag Harbor is artsy and expensive. Orient is secluded with little to do but fish.

Shelter Island is great. Sterling Harbor has a lot of shops and restaurants in walking distance. Ferry to Greenport is a 20 min walk. If keeping the kids occupied is the goal, I agree Greenport is probably your best bet.

The hardware store in Greenport was also a great visit for me , was opposite Claudios Restaurant and was called "White's" back then. Sawdust on the plank flooring and everything imaginable on the shelves.

Enjoy whatever you choose!!

Well we have decided to spend they day exploring the Peconic today. This will be our first day on the new boat so we are all very excited! Tomorrow we are going to make the 45 min trip to Greenport and spend the day and if the weather is ok the night. Calling for rain showers.
