Re: life jacket question

See: That's the trouble with printed communication. I actually meant it to be light but I guess it read wrong. Sorry! I apologise to the lady if I appeared too strong. Anyway: How do I know about how thongs feel? I was married to a sexually adventurous kinky woman. Enough sharing? Or too much? LOL?

But really, If properly adjusted, a crotch strap should not be uncomfortable. Wish I had one on the blue life jacket in the avatar. That one always rides up to the back of my head while I am running the boat. Seems like all I do is pull it down. Time to buy something better.

Re: life jacket question

Ya it was actually a serious question. Don't like the restraining feeling. I would go without if i could. Have a seatbelt problem too lol but I'm getting better wearing those. I figured it wasnt fair to let my fiancee worry all the time.

Re: life jacket question

Just my 2c worth here.
I know that the evil croch straps are on childrens pfds, as well people that white water paddle wear them, and racers, I would go with a cg certified jacket/vest that you are comfortable in if you are just into pleasure boating.

Re: life jacket question

Absolutely!... to all of the above.

Bride2be, ditch the uncomfortable life jacket and go get one that is comfortable, stylish and wearable for the environment you are boating in. The type 1 is great, but if its uncomfortable, you are probably either not going to wear it or use it improperly which may be more hazardous to your health.

We live in modern times. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of choices and options in PFD's. Find one you like and want to wear. Wear it when ever you're on or boarding the boat, stay safe and have fun.

Remember, we do this because it makes us happy, not miserable. :)

Re: life jacket question

As an adult, I'd pass on any life jacket with a crotch strap. They make enough other good ones that don't have that strap. I suppose if someone has a very unusual body shape (I'm trying to visualize what that would look like) or has no arms, the strap would be good to have. Otherwise - ouch! - especially in a hard fall when skiing!

Unless they are in a canoe, kayak, or other very small boat, most people I know don't wear a lifejacket. They have them on board but don't wear them. Maybe that's wrong, but that's the reality of the situation. Non-swimmers are another matter; IMO they shouldn't get into a boat without a lifejacket.

I once heard a statistic about drownings while boating. According to that, most men that drown have their fly down when recovered. I guess after a few beer on the water, nature calls . . .

I think you misunderstood me... we figured frank was kidding...... you we took seriously.....
If it is reasonably comfortable wear it.... If it is so uncomfortable that you can't wear it properly then get another style..... something to consider here is that those straps allow your vest to fit much looser and still stay on when you need it..... I personally am gonna pick up an inflatable. it's mainly the bulk of a normal vest that bothers me and they are very thin.

Smoke, I'm not sure that this is the right place to say you're going to personally pick up an inflatable . I thought the subject was life jackets and pfd's? :D

Definitely get a PFD that is comfortable. My wife and I have our own inflateble PFD's, and we have two for passengers. We also had non inflatable ones for any kids aboard.
I forget mine is on, very comfortable.

My wife has hers on in this pic, as she ascends from the cabin, it is a light purple color.

In this pic, you can see me at the helm, and Brandon(Blue Crabber here on iboats), he is wearing one our guest inflatables, you can see how the strap goes in the back, not crotch straps. It was cold, and there is adjustability to allow for more clothing underneath.

We also keep sport type aboard for swimming and watersports, like the one my fat butt is wearing here.

Even our dog wears one when underway,

Auto inflatable's are the way to go IMO. My wife got a couple for she and I last Christmas and you hardly realize they are on. They even come with a nice mesh storage bag. Before the auto inflatables we never wore our pfd's which is kind of silly when you think about it.

Boy, I'll bet you even make your dog wear one!:D

Anyway, Bride, I don't think you told us what type of boating you do. That could help narrow down the choices. You will undoubtedly be able to find something acceptable to you, your honey, and the Coast Guard (those pests!).

I would suggest that you contact the manufacturer of the PFD before you try to modify it. They might have a web site where you can get a email address.

If you can't get any satisfaction this way then, as others have stated, try to find a PFD that is comfortable.
