1984 Bayliner with Volvo Penta aq125 and 270 outdrive....

I was fishing, we like to drift, but I drifted into some super shallow water and bottomed out the old Bayliner. I got out and physically towed the beast into some deeper water before starting the engine. We lifted the outdrive to help our situation, but we were still chopping sand and seaweed on the way out. Steering was lousy with the drive up, so we lowered it here and there and raised it as needed. Point is, the pump got a workout.

Upon trailering the boat after that trip, the lift wouldnt work at all. TIed the drive up with some rope and went home.

Next trip, the temp was geting a little hot at 3/4 throttle....cooled down at slower speeds. Ive never had a temp problem since I got this thing running a few months ago...Ive been thru the WHOLE cooling system, rebuilt pump, new impeller, new seals, etc....This symptom is classic for the inlet neck isssue so Ive got to check that out. I checked the strainer, and there was a TINY bit of seaweed in it, but I bet some more got pulled thru the strainer.

Checked the fuse on the pump wiring and it was ok.
I hot wired the trim pump motor, took the two lead wires and jumped them to the battery and got nothing. What esle can I do for the pump motor?.

The cooling issue bugs me, but maybe the elbow got jarred or the hose to that got tweaked with the outdrive getting knocked around. When I serviced the elbow neck last, the lift pump was essential because I used different positions of the drive to get access to the elbow at different parts of the process so that sucks that the pump doesnt work!
