Thanks for the information.

I was able to grind off the rivets holding one of the shutter brackets and removed the old shutter piece from the exhaust elbow.

I will get another shutter for the exhaust elbow and pray I have put an end to the annoying ticking once and for all!!

I appreciate all of the information that was shared in these posts.

Well I replaced the shutter, fired up the old girl and guess what?? tick tick tick at different rpm's. Pulled off the valve cover and scoped each valve stud and discovered # 2 and # 6 were sounding different than the the other cylinder valve studs.

I decided to pull out all of the lifters, inspect and clean them. They are all out and I am noticing they all seem to be stuck, no pushrod cap movement at all. I took one apart, cleaned it, put it back together and can push down the pushrod cap without very much effort. I am curious as to why the pushrod caps of the other lifters do not even budge when I put alot of force on them. I have no problem taking all them apart and cleaning them in hopes of solving my ticking problem but I guess I am just wondering if these lifter pushrod caps are supposed to depress as a rule with some effort for their operation.

Other than the tick, the motor ran great after sitting for 7 months and I am hoping newly cleaned lifters and the proper valve adjustment will put the tick to rest once and for all.

again thank you for your patience!!
