Hi, I have a 2000 BF130 that has 210-220 psi compression in cylinders 1,3, and 4, but 175 psi in cylinder 2. I scoped it and there is light corrosion all around the cylinder. After I remove head, If I clean corrosion, would it be good to go with new head gasket? Im aware of the head and cylinder block cracks in the early models, which this one is in the range unfortunately, BZBE-1101093. Would it need honed? Here’s a couple pics:

Dude , I know its not great but that rust aint bad compared to some I have seen . Honestly if that were mine Id tip a bit of oil in the cylinder , crank it over a bit , put the plugs in and kick her in the guts , run it for half an hour ,test the comp and if it doesnt go down ..... change the oil and go boating . The only other logical option is to strip the motor , hone and re- ring it , new every gasket and seal you touched .........and you will most likely be no better off . You have nothing to loose .:):)

Not sure, do you all think it was caused by the dreaded cracked cylinder head that they're infamous for? I basically got it super cheap and previous owner said it was running rough. Fresh water motor only and super clean on inside. Only real issue is that cylinder. The head gasket doesn't seem to be pushed out on the port side, which I've seen mentioned in other posts for these motors.

I will also add the dipstick was completely free of water, no bubbles and not milky. Looked like new oil, granted could have been changed before I got it.

I'll give that a shot Mc and run it on the stand. Might need to address fuel system first though, as it's condition is unknown.

Oh , I wasnt aware that you actually suspected a cracked head or block , sorta changes things a bit ....but I think Id still run it to see whats what . If there has been water getting into a combustion chamber it will have a lot less carbon build up on the piston top and cylinder head . 🤞
